Ben Thomas is a Wrexham-based trumpet player, composer, and musical director with extensive experience across orchestral, brass band, and contemporary music.
A former principal trumpet of the North Wales Youth Orchestra and member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, Ben trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, studying under Ross Brown (London Chamber Orchestra), and Tom Hutchinson (Black Dyke Band). He has performed at leading venues including the Royal Albert Hall and continues to perform regularly with ensembles such as the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra and Northop Silver Band. As a freelance trumpeter, he works across a wide range of genres, from orchestral and jazz to indie, oompah, and soul.
Ben is an accomplished composer and arranger, with his music regularly performed by leading musicians internationally. Alongside his performance studies, he studied composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama under Lynne Plowman. During his time there, he collaborated with Wells Cathedral School, contributing to their side-by-side projects with the world-renowned Cory Band. His works have since been performed in 12 countries across 4 continents.

Ben is actively involved in music education, supporting developing musicians in both group and one-to-one settings. Drawing on his professional performance experience, he delivers engaging and supportive teaching that inspires confidence, sharpens technique, and nurtures musicality. Alongside this, he works as a Musical Director, bringing energy, precision, and creativity to every ensemble he leads.
